Welcome to Intake Road and the inaugural UCC Players Re-Union 2016 , we hope this will be the first of many !!!

The idea came from ex- overseas player Martin Bradley (Off Spinner and lower order Batsman) who reminded me from New Zealand over the winter that it was 30 years since we had played in the Division 1 Championship winning side of 1986, and that since he was coming over to the UK for 3 weeks in the summer it would be a good idea to have a re-union. Rather than just getting that squad together it was decided to invite players, supporters and committee members from all eras including the 1997 Division 1 Championship winners and hence today we hope to have a gathering of around 90 people plus families.

I am sure everyone will have an enjoyable afternoon/ evening and ( hopefully both) meeting and reminiscing with old playing colleagues and friends, it will be great to see everyone and especially those who have travelled from further afield including Leicestershire and South Yorkshire. There will be plenty of tales to tell and share and I am sure the old adage will come into play “The older I get the better I was!!”

As usual with these types of events there has been a lot of time, planning and organisation spent and thanks must be made, firstly to the UCC General Committee for agreeing to hold the event, secondly to the special efforts personnel for their help and ideas, lastly and especially to Richard Sokol who has helped me a great deal in the contacting of players by phone, e-mail and social media and publicising the event. I am going to miss our dialogue and weekly update spreadsheets on attendees (at last count I think we were up to Version 33 !) but seriously Richard, many thanks for your hard work and endeavours.

Finally I am sure you will all join me in wishing the current 1st and 2nd Elevens the best of luck in their respective fixtures today and for the rest of the season, particularly the first team in their attempt to get back into the “ Top Flight” and the newly formed Premier League a place where Undercliffe CC should definitely be !!!!!
